What is Freelancer News?
A new community by Folyo where freelancers can share tips, news, and interesting links with each other. It's freelancing with a little help from your friends.

Why a community for Freelancers?
For years I've had freelancers tell me they wished a community like Hacker News existed specifically for them. The quality of discussions on places like /r/freelance just isn't up to par or representative of the advice a professional freelance business needs. My goal with this community is to create a place that helps you enjoy growing your business. Originally the community started as a Slack group for members of my lead newsletters and we're in the process of migrating those discussions here.

What is Inter?
Inter is the app I use to run this community. In addition to using it for this community, I co-built Inter with a developer. We have a lot of fun features planned but we're a 2 man team so please bear with us. It may take some time to get up and running fully.

What should I do now?
Please share a little below about what you hope to get out of this community. Your feedback is the lifeblood of this community going forward so I really appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks and welcome to the community!

Great idea - hope it's well-received.

Personally, I'd love to learn how people conduct outreach. I'm talking about researching buying intent and other intelligence tools (not remotely interested in cold emails/phone calls).

Other tools I'd love to know about...
- how other people maintain clients (websites)
- how people prevent project scope
- record-keeping
- anything to build a legitimate business :)

Looking forward to community contributions!

Thanks for setting the community up Robert. I've been freelancing since 2010 as a WordPress designer and Webmaster. Having a place to share thoughts, resources, bounce ideas off of others and see how others are building their freelance business is a good way to learn faster and grow.

What I hope to get out of this community:

1. Build relationships with others walking the same road as I am
2. Learn systems, processes and automations to build efficiency and quality
3. Variety of ways to bring in clients w/o having to be "everywhere"
4. Keeping more of what I earn than what is going out

That's a good start! Looking forward to meeting other likeminded freelancers.

Hey Zak! This is an awesome request. I actually have a product centered around how to conduct deep client research like this called Endless Clients. And here's a preview video on the module about doing this research. Love your other suggestions too. Noting them down for future topics to explore.

Welcome Patrick! This is an awesome list. Thank you so much for sharing. It's going to be a bit of experimentation to see what kind of content helps with these 4 goals but I'll definitely be using these as the marker for success.
